Project Description: There are 5 million blind people in India. All of them have to carry long and heavy walking sticks with them wherever they go. So to lessen their burden, I have created a smart walking stick. It is made up of an ultrasonic sensor and a Quarky board. When the Ultrasonic sensor detects an obstacle in front of it, it starts beeping.
This will be the next in generation walking stick for blind people as it will lessen their burden. This project is only a prototype and can be improved much further like integrating it with Google Maps so that the walking stick will give directions too. A camera can also be added to identify the object(s) ahead and notify the person. It will also be possible to add a vibrating motor so that the stick also vibrates along with beeping. These are only a few ideas out of many. I hope my project comes useful and handy to the blind people.
